Air filters are one of the most important tools to keeping your home clean and efficient. Removing dust, pollen, and debris from the air you breathe is a staple when it comes to central heating and cooling.

For a new homeowner, filters may be at the bottom of the list when it comes to remembering how to keep a home efficient. The Rudd staff wants to help you understand air filter etiquette!

The first thing to remember when it comes to changing out air filters is when to do it! In order to keep the system operating at optimal efficiency, changing your filter is suggested every one to three months. That may come off as quite frequent, but this is your air we are discussing. Knowing you are breathing clean air is a priority.

The second is the type and size of filter you should purchase. At Rudd Heating and Air, our family can help you assess your ducts in order to find a filter appropriate for your unit! Measure the opening or reference from the filter already in place. This will make sure you do not waste money on incorrect sizing!

Finally, Installation. When removing your old filter, make sure you have turned your unit off completely. When open, remove the old filter and clean the vent cover from excess lint and debris. Check the filter for the orientation of the the air flow arrow. You want the arrow to point toward the duct work to instill proper filtration. Latch the clean vent cover closed and turn your unit back on. Lastly, properly dispose of the old filter.

Rudd Heating and Air wants you to feel confident in taking care of your home and HVAC units. Filter changes are crucial to the lifespan of your unit as well as efficiency. Stop by our office or contact us if you have any questions regarding HVAC unit or central heating and cooling system care!
